The Challenge
Transforming a 1960’s classic diner into a luxurious speakeasy while adding interior square footage converting the walkout patio to livable space. Taking an incongruent master bath and closet, removing the rarely used tub to a timeless shower, adding a closet where the walkout deck was, making the rooms flow with the rest of the house.
The Vision
The homeowners desired to make the space into an inviting and warm speakeasy-type entertainment space, featuring a lit and mirrored bar wall with a complete kitchen setup. They wanted to match the existing living room in the basement and also add a movie theater. In the master bath, the goal was to create a larger shower with a bench and keep natural lighting, light wood vanities with light colored countertops, and to match two efficient closets to be utilized as a “his and hers” while keeping a French chateau vibe.
The Solution
To accomplish the goals, we had to open the space in the basement by removing and bumping out existing corner walls and removing a double-sided fireplace. Using a stately green color for cabinets and lighting, thick countertops, with gold accents all around to complement a darker colored wall to create the speakeasy feel. Increased accent lighting and added features such as built-in countertop wireless chargers.
The master bath was redesigned with white oak vanities, additional windows for natural light, and highly functional closets. A prominent arched shower entry with gold accented arched doors to tie into the French look. Heated floors, a shower bench, a towel warmer, and a digital shower control for multi-use functions, including two shower heads, body sprays, and a handheld wand, the bathroom is sure not to disappoint.
The Results
A one-of-a-kind speakeasy with attached movie theater and living room that all flow together is a sure-fire way to entertain at any event. A masterclass bathroom with smart storage in closets and vanities, and a centerpiece shower turned “the eye of the storm” into a dream.
