The Challenge
This home needed to work harder for a growing, active family of six. The existing layout felt compartmentalized, limiting how the main level functioned day to day. While many homeowners ask for an “open concept,” the real challenge here was creating openness without losing structure or purpose between spaces.
Upstairs, the home also fell short. There was no dedicated laundry space for the kids, and the bedroom count didn’t fully support the needs of the family. The house had potential, but it wasn’t aligned with how the family lived.
The Vision
The goal was to create a home that felt open, connected, and practical without becoming one large undefined space. The main level needed to support cooking, gathering, and everyday life, anchored by a larger island that could serve multiple functions.
On the second floor, the focus shifted to improving daily routines. The plan included adding a dedicated laundry room for the kids, maintaining a private laundry space within the primary suite, and building an additional bedroom over the garage to give the family the flexibility they needed.
The Solution
The approach started with reworking the structure of the main level. Walls were removed strategically to open key areas while still maintaining natural transitions between spaces. This allowed for a redesigned kitchen layout and the addition of a larger island with proper circulation around it.
Upstairs, the layout was expanded and reconfigured to include a new bedroom over the garage and two separate laundry areas—one for the kids and one within the primary suite. Each change was made with function in mind, focusing on how the home would be used every day.
The Results
The finished home feels more connected, more functional, and better suited to the pace of a busy household.
The main level now supports both everyday living and gathering, with a kitchen that serves as the center of the home. The balance between openness and defined spaces makes it feel intentional rather than oversized.
Upstairs, the added bedroom and dual laundry areas simplify daily routines and give the family room to grow. The result is a home that doesn’t just look better—it works better, supporting how this family lives now and into the future.
