Project Details

The Challenge

The primary challenge of this project was transforming a compact primary bathroom into a spa-like retreat while staying within a tight budget and timeline, as the clients were preparing for the arrival of their second child. A key obstacle was integrating a two-person infrared sauna alongside a spacious shower and dual vanities without sacrificing functionality or comfort. The existing whirlpool tub was underutilized yet consumed valuable square footage, making thoughtful reconfiguration essential.

The Vision

The vision for Suburban Solitude was to create a calm, restorative sanctuary within the home—an everyday escape where the homeowners could relax and recharge. Inspired by spa environments, the design focused on earthy tones, warm wood accents, and rich blue tile, paired with modern fixtures and abundant light. Replacing the whirlpool tub with a luxurious shower and incorporating an infrared sauna were central to delivering a rejuvenating, retreat-like experience.

The Solution

To meet both spatial and budget constraints, multiple layout scenarios were explored before selecting a pre-built infrared sauna. Positioning the sauna in the former shower location allowed the vanities to remain in place while relocating the new walk-in shower to the unused tub area. Removing the whirlpool tub made room for an expanded shower with multiple shower heads, a bench, and integrated storage niches. Strategic material selections—including eucalyptus wood, deep blue glossy tile, and striking quartz—enhanced both durability and spa-like appeal.

The Results

The completed primary bath is a clean, timeless, and highly functional retreat that fully reflects the clients’ wish list. The enlarged shower offers a luxurious daily experience, while the infrared sauna provides a private space for relaxation without leaving the primary suite. Improved storage, thoughtful lighting, and cohesive finishes elevate the room’s usability and atmosphere. The clients were thrilled with the outcome—a cozy, spa-inspired bathroom that delivers both beauty and balance after long, busy days.
