At Highrock Design Build Remodel, we help Omaha homeowners rethink how their homes function—then build solutions that make daily life easier, more efficient, and more enjoyable. With over 20 years of experience, our work ranges from focused remodels to whole-home renovations and custom builds, all grounded in thoughtful planning and precise execution.

We’re known for solving the hard parts of remodeling. Opening up load-bearing walls, reworking layouts, and improving flow between spaces are where projects either succeed or fall apart. We focus on getting those decisions right early, so the finished home feels natural, intentional, and built to last.

Our approach is straightforward: clear communication, realistic budgeting, and decisions made in the right order. Remodeling is a major investment, and our role is to guide you through it with confidence—so there are fewer surprises and better outcomes.

The Challenge

At times, securing a home in the ideal neighborhood is all it takes to motivate a purchase, even if the house itself isn’t perfect. This was the case for these homeowners, who recognized that while the house could be improved, the location couldn’t be beat. Built in the 1980s, the home had not been updated since its original construction. Outdated finishes and design choices left much to be desired, particularly in the grand two-story entrance that felt far from impressive. However, the most significant challenge lay in the kitchen. The cramped layout was divided by a large peninsula, resulting in a limited workspace for a family of five that primarily cooks at home. To make matters worse, the dropped ceiling made the kitchen feel even smaller. With family gatherings and entertaining being important to the homeowners, open spaces that encourage flow were essential. They desired a coastal, airy design aesthetic.

The Vision

To enhance the kitchen and accommodate a spacious island for informal dining, the pantry along with a coat closet from the hallway were removed, allowing for proper clearance around the island. A new walk-in pantry was created by merging an unused office closet and converting a full bathroom into a half bath for guests. The new kitchen layout significantly improved workflow and increased storage capacity.

The Solution

To achieve the desired light and airy ambiance, the original kitchen windows were replaced with a large picture window, and expansive sliding glass doors were added to the patio, inviting more natural light and showcasing the beautiful mature trees that were a major selling point for the homeowners. The dropped ceiling was eliminated, instantly creating a more open and spacious feel. The foyer received special attention, featuring wall moldings that highlight the height of the space and a stunning chandelier, making it the showpiece it was always meant to be.

The Results

The remodel transformed the main level into a bright, welcoming space perfect for both family time and entertaining. The kitchen with its expanded square footage and new island took its right place as the heart of the home. While the coastal-inspired design with light finishes and natural materials created a relaxed, sophisticated atmosphere. The result is a home that blends style, comfort and functionality, offering an inviting space for any occasion.
