Project Details
The Challenge
The challenge for this 1970’s built home was to create a more open and connected home, without the benefit of a complete floor plan overhaul. What began as a focused main-level renovation quickly evolved into a full home transformation, requiring a thoughtful reimagining of each existing space rather than a relocation of it. Additionally, we were asked to add a bike storage room, create a coffee bar, update the non-working fireplace and incorporate purple into the design.
The Vision
The vision was a cohesive, light-filled environment that blends classic architectural elements with transitional comfort and unique details. The goal was to create a space that feels both timeless and current; a home which is welcoming to guests, highly functional for everyday living, and visually connected throughout. We aimed to include different tones and variations of purple to honor our clients’ wishes and create a sense of storytelling. Functionality was equally important, so reconfiguring multiple area to improve workflow, storage, and usability were planned.
The Solution
The solution focused on opening visual pathways and removing barriers to better connect the main level. The kitchen was reimagined with a large secondary island, created as a central gathering space that enhances flow and supports entertaining. A full-height cabinet wall was designed to maximize storage and conceal a functional secret door that leads to the back hall. A new coffee and breakfast bar was added for both charm and usability. The layout was improved by removing the secondary bathroom to expand the laundry room and an underutilized closet was converted into dedicated bike storage with access from both the home and garage. The powder room was discreetly integrated into the entry with decorative paneling, while the staircase was opened to create an unobstructed view from the front door to the backyard and bring in more natural light. The fireplace was redesigned as a focal point, and all five bathrooms were updated, including a fully reconfigured primary suite that now feels open, bright, and multi-functional. Throughout, thoughtful use of variations of purple add personality and tie meaningful elements of the homeowners’ story into the design.
The Results
The result is a stunning whole-home transformed, from boxed in rooms with out of date wallpaper borders, into a stylish home where classic elegance meets modern comfort. It now provides open, bright, and inviting spaces, with enhanced sight lines and a seamless flow connecting every room. The remodel now offers the perfect blend of both everyday living and effortless entertaining to suit our clients’ lifestyle. From the dramatic transformation in the entry to the spa-like retreat ambiance of the primary ensuite, the aesthetics combined classic detailing with tailored transitional simplicity. Ultimately, this home achieved a harmonious balance: sophisticated yet approachable, visually striking yet deeply comfortable. Designed not only to be admired but to be lived in, where everyday moments and special gatherings alike feel equally at home.
