The Challenge

After decades of of well loved and tight space from the 90’s our clients were ready to bring their kitchen into the new century. The challenge was the kitchen lacked the adequate space for a good flow with a grown family and hosting in the space was confining feeling. The obstacle to overcome was how to make the space work with the current footprint and leaving the utilities in their spaces. The challenge was hard to put into a vision for the client with the uncertainty on where to gain the space however we were determined to gain the space the clients needed.

The Vision

Before hitting the drawing board to figure out what construction we needed to do to accomplish designing the space with in the current bones we needed to discuss the clients wants from the space after understanding their needs. The client’s vision was a cozy and inviting space with a great flow. Their absolute want was to eliminate the peninsula the was the factor of making the space feel constricted and add an island to create the desired flow.

The Solution

After some careful consideration and consulting with our Designer it was determined that the client’s requests could be accommodated by stealing 21″ from the powder bathroom would be the space we needed. This option did mean the powder bathroom size would be reduced but there was enough space in there to begin with that it would not jeopardize the adequate space for the powder bath space to function as needed. Even more of a bonus the wall was a non-load bearing wall.

The Results

Ta-da! We worked our magic after overcoming the challenges of the space and created a refined cozy and inviting space for our client. Moving the wall allowed for the proper space that an island needs in a space and all utilities were kept in the locations. Out clients week from a dark stained kitchen from the 90’s to a warm transitional kitchen.
